Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard, rooted in Gagnard-Delagrange heritage, originated from the 1982 marriage of Richard Fontaine and Laurence Gagnard. The initial four hectares of vineyards were predominantly acquired from the Gagnards in Chassagne, complemented by a small portion from the Delagrange arm of the family in Pommard. In the following two decades, the family embarked on an ambitious initiative to acquire additional vineyards in Chassagne, steadily expanding the domaine to reach a size of 12 hectares.

Since 2007 the Domaine has been managed by Céline Fontaine and her husband Fred Robert (ex Armand Rousseau.) They excels in Chassagne-Montrachets, including premier and grand crus like Criots-Batard-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet, and Montrachet. The wines exhibit an intense, deep, and complex style, starting balanced and accessible but aging gracefully. Premier crus like Clos St. Jean, Maltroie, Vergers, Caillerets, and La Romanee showcase their prowess.

The domaine also boasts a significant portion of the small Criots-Batard-Montrachet grand cru. Céline crafts exquisite Batard-Montrachet and a fraction of Le Montrachet. Noteworthy reds include Chassagne-Montrachet rouge, Volnay Clos des Chenes, and Pommard Rugiens. Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard stands as one of Chassagne-Montrachet's finest, delivering consistent excellence.

Fontaine-Gagnard upholds Burgundian tradition with deep-rooted winemaking practices. All wines undergo fermentation with indigenous yeast. Whites mature for a year, while reds age for 18 months in bespoke barrels crafted for the Domaine. Since the late 1980s, they've procured custom French oak via a wood broker, aging it for two years before sending it to a local cooper to fashion their unique barrels, known as pieces in Burgundian slang.
