WHAT IS A WINE BROKER?
A wine broker specializes in buying, selling and trading fine wines for investors, restaurants and fine wine collectors. Selling your wine collection can be quite an emotional task. You've collected fine wine, perhaps for decades, and now you've arrived at a point where it makes more financial sense to sell your collection than to consume it. Estate Wine Brokers is a fine wine brokerage firm. Estate Wine Brokers doesn't work like a traditional wine broker. We are interested in brokering or purchasing your properly cellared fine wine, and will handle the door-to-door logistics of every transaction.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WINE BROKER VS A WINE AUCTION?
Typically it will take you 3 months to sell your wine at a wine auction. With a wine auction, you will receive a Low/Mid/High estimate with a reserve price. Wine auctions are speculative and are subject to market up-swing and down-swing. Additionally with a wine auction, you may receive free shipping from your cellar to the auction house if the collection is large enough, but if the wine doesn't sell then you'll be charged storage and return shipping fees that are generally fairly high.
Estate Wine Brokers pays fast for wine collections, and generally we can complete a transaction within 7-10 days of faster in some cases. Our prices are generally more than auction net-to-seller pricing by 10-20%. The benefit of using Estate Wine Brokers vs an auction like Wine Bid or Sothebys is that we move quickly and you'll be paid quickly with absolute certainty.
Estate Wine Brokers has over 100 years of collective wine experience, and we are licensed to buy, sell and ship wine in over 48 states and we are licensed with the United States Treasury Department (Federal).
WHAT IS MY WINE WORTH?
Our unparalleled access to current market wine values will ensure that you receive the best possible return on your investment while avoiding the high commissions and uncertainties of wine auctions. We use a blend of sources to determine fine wine prices that include retail values and auction values adjusted for drinkability and availability.
SHOULD I SELL MY WINE COLLECTION?
The first thing you must ask yourself is:
- Why do I want to or need to sell my wine collection?
- Do I need money?
- Has my taste in wine changed?
- Did I stop drinking wine?
- Did I inherit a wine collection?
We want to make sure that regardless of the reason why you want to sell your wine collection, it's done with respect, dignity, and confidentiality. The process is quite simple. We request a series of photos, and ask a series of questions to determine the provenance of your wine collection. Once we have these questions answered we assemble a spreadsheet of these wines and produce estimates based on retail and auction prices. Then we place a Buy or Broker offer. Even if we can't help you sell your wine collection then we will at least tell you how or who to sell your wines to.
SHOULD I KEEP MY WINE COLLECTION AND CONTINUE TO INVEST IN FINE WINE?
If you think that now's not the right time to sell your wine, we can help you assess the current market conditions and help advise you on how to continue to collect and invest in fine wine as an alternative asset class. Wine as continued to outperform the S&P 500 and we have the supporting data to prove it. Be careful about websites that promise you returns and send you countless offers on new and emerging producers. For example investing in rose wines or white wines comes with a heavier degree of risk and tighter sell-side conditions. Estate Wine Brokers will continue to help guide you in the world of investing in fine wine. Please feel free to send us and email and request a free book on Investing in Fine Wine or subscribe to our email list and receive offers on investment grade wine opportunities.
