How to Select a Broker Part VI: Checking Facilities

STEP 6: CHECK THEIR FACILITIES

The last step in selecting a broker is to check a their facilities. If possible, you should visit them in person. If you are going to be buying and possibly storing wine with a broker for years, you should ensure they have proper storage facilities.

You want to make sure the storage area is dry and has redundant power backups. This is incredibly important. Furthermore, you want to make sure they can take deliveries for you. And their storage fees should be very small for a client. Cheap storage is typically about twenty-five to thirty-five cents per case per month, which is not expensive. That’s worth every penny, considering that a good storage warehouse has redundant power systems.

Furthermore, storing your wine with them ensures that you can confirm the provenance of your wine when it comes time to liquidate your assets.
