An Estimated 80% of Napa's Cabernet May be Lost to Smoke and Fire

As recently reported in Bloomberg, a staggering 80% of Napa's Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards may be damaged or destroyed by the wildfires that continue to rage throughout the region.  The ever-growing list of noteworthy properties lost to the fires includes Cain Winery, Newton Vineyards, Spring Mountain Vineyard, Chateau Boswell, Burgess Cellars, Hourglass Winery, the Meadowood resort in St. Helena, and several others.  This fire season is by far the worst in Napa Valley's history, and with the fires still only 30% contained as of Monday October 5th, even more destruction lies ahead.  The net effect of these devastating conditions is that very few elite wineries will release premium Cabernets in 2020 - prices are likely to skyrocket for the 2020 Cabernets that are released due to limited supply, while demand is likely to plummet over fears of inconsistent quality.  This is an untenable situation for many of our friends in Napa Valley, and our hearts go out to the families and businesses bearing the brunt of this disaster.
