A New Parcel of Mature Ridge Monte Bello

If California had a classification system like that of Bordeaux, Ridge's Monte Bello estate high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains would certainly be named a First Growth. Originally planted in 1886, Monte Bello's unique situation and limestone soils yield Cabernets of unusual restraint and elegance, evidenced by their relatively low alcohol levels, high natural acidity, and fine-grained tannins. Since the late 1960s, Ridge has produced world-class clarets that can compete with the best from anywhere, and today Monte Bello remains one of the most consistent and ageworthy wines on the market. Estate Wine Brokers is thrilled to present a new single-owner parcel of mature Monte Bello in a variety of formats, with all items listed at the lowest prices in the country:

Ridge Monte Bello 1993 1500ml - $359
93 Points Wine Advocate "The 1993 Ridge Monte Bello (already bottled) is a tightly-wrapped, densely-colored, pure, rich, full-bodied Cabernet with moderately intense aromas of vanilla, black-raspberries, currants, and minerals. This rich wine cuts a deep path on the palate, with high tannin, adequate acidity, and a long, muscular, formidably-endowed finish. Extremely unevolved and young, it needs 7-10 years of cellaring. When young, this wine rarely reveals its full potential. Having said that, the last three vintages of the Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon (1993, 1994, and 1995) are immensely impressive, with perhaps the 1994 the least expansive - for now. (RP)" (04/1996)

Ridge Monte Bello 2000 375ml - $85
Ridge Monte Bello 2000 3000ml - $850
93 Points Wine Advocate "The 2000 Monte Bello exhibits a briary, rustic bouquet, with notions of grilled meat, cigar ash and leather complementing its rich blackberry, cassis and plum fruit. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple, with an ample core of succulent fruit, melting tannins and a long, savory finish. It's drinking beautifully today, especially with a decant (which helps to integrate this Monte Bello's wild side). The product of a cool September, the 2000 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc that attained 13.4% natural alcohol. (WK)" (05/2018)

Ridge Monte Bello 2003 3000ml - $895
94+ Points Wine Advocate "One of the smallest crops to be included in the Ridge Monte Bello, only 32% of the production made it into the 2003, which is largely Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. Out of barrel as well as post-bottling I liked this wine a lot, and it has changed very little from when I last tasted it in February, 2010. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color along with sweet black currant, blueberry, graphite, licorice and toasty vanillin aromas. The tannins are still noticeable in this full-bodied 2003, but seem reasonably well-integrated. Forget this wine for another decade and drink it over the following 30+ years. (RP)" (06/2013)
