Classic Volnay from Marquis d'Angerville

In a recent episode of Levi Dalton's I'll Drink to That! podcast, British Master of Wine and Burgundy expert Jasper Morris sang the praises of Volnay, stating that the best wines possess greater "sex appeal" than nearly any from the Côte de Nuits. For decades, no producer has been more synonymous with great Volnay than Marquis d'Angerville, a domaine with vineyard holdings that include the historic monopole Clos des Ducs along with large swaths of the top 1er Crus. Estate Wine Brokers is proud to offer an assortment of recently released 2016s from d'Angerville, each listed at the lowest retail price in the country:

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru Monopole 2016 750ml - $239
95 Points Wine Advocate "The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs is a stunning young wine, unwinding in the glass with a beautiful but reserved bouquet of rose petal, candied violet, red cherries, plums, dark chocolate and hints of the savory bass-notes to come. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lovely purity of fruit, dense but velvety tannins and a bright animating line of acidity, concluding with a penetrating and precise finish. There's an energy to the fruit that marks this out as a special vintage for the Clos des Ducs, though it will demand a decade's patience at a minimum. (NM)" (01/2019)

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Champans 1er Cru 2016 750ml - $149
95 Points Wine Spectator "Pure and intense, featuring cherry, black currant and violet aromas and flavors, this red is seductive and approachable despite its youth. The solid structure is seamlessly integrated and bodes well for future development. Shows terrific harmony and expression. (BS)" (01/2019)

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Fremiets 1er Cru 2016 750ml - $125
92 Points Wine Advocate "The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, quite floral with hints of crushed violet and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant fleshy mouthfeel. This is not a deep Fremiets, but there are fine-boned tannins and it is potentially a pretty and feminine Volnay with a touch of piquancy on the finish. Lovely. (NM)" (12/2017)

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru 2016 750ml - $95
91 Points Wine Advocate
"Blended with the Les Pitures and Mitans as usual, the 2016 Volnay 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with pure blackberry and bilberry fruit, focused and what you might describe as tidy. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely blackberry and redcurrant fruits, something refreshingly bucolic about this premier cru, a little short but delicious. (NM)" (12/2017)
