California Winery Spills Nearly 100,000 Gallons of Wine

As reported in yesteday's issue of the Los Angeles Times, over 97,000 gallons of Cabernet Sauvignon spilled from a tank at Rodney Strong Vineyards in Healdsburg, California.  The spill happened after a small door near the bottom of a large blending tank popped open, releasing its contents into a sewer system on the property.  From there, the wine spilled into a drainage ditch that feeds into Reiman Creek and eventually made its way to Russian River, where officals said it can hurt water quality in the 110-mile tributary that opens into the Pacific Ocean.  Efforts to contain the spill have been largely unsucessful, and Rodney Strong is conducting an internal investigation and cooperating with authorites.  We are following this story closely and will post updates as new information becomes available.
