2015s from Comte Georges de Vogüé

With over 500 years of history and the lion’s share of one of Burgundy’s most hallowed Grand Crus, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is one of the finest estates in all of Burgundy, and certainly the greatest in Chambolle-Musigny. The estate's landholdings include a staggering 80 percent of the Grand Cru Le Musigny, along with a sizable portion of the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares. Its 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny is crafted exclusively from younger-vine fruit in Le Musigny, while its village wine is made in part from declassified 1er Cru fruit. These sublime, soulful wines are a Burgundy collector’s dream, and we are proud to present an offering from the extraordinary 2015 vintage:

Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle Musigny 2015 750ml - $199
WA 89-91 "The 2015 Chambolle Musigny Village has a clean, pure and fragrant bouquet with hints of iodine tinging the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is fresh and ripe on the entry with a touch more black fruit than red, a "solid" Chambolle in terms of density with a gentle grip on the finish. It needs more time in barrel and bottle to evolve its personality, but the key components are here. (NM)" (12/2016)

Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru 2015 750ml - $299
WA 92-94 "The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a more floral bouquet compared to the village cru, here the fruit leaning more towards the red side of the spectrum, beautifully defined and showing impressively. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with fine tannin, quite vivid in the mouth with that blood orange note mixed with spice towards the energetic finish. At this stage, there appears to be considerable distance between the village and premier crus, and it will be interesting to see if this remains after bottling. (NM)" (12/2016)

Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares Grand Cru 2015 750ml - $599
WA 94-96 "The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru came across subtly on the nose compared to the les Amoureuses and required more patience when tasted from barrel. It is not a flamboyant or ostentatious Bonnes-Mares, prioritizing precision and classicism, not to imply that it shortchanges you on the intensity ones expects from this vineyard. The palate is fresh from the start: a wonderful structure and especially for Bonnes-Mares, outstanding mineralité in situ and very tensile with so much energy from the blueberry and blackberry fruit that you can feel this wine two minutes later. Bridled with impressive grip and structure, this is a bona fide grand vin. (NM)" (12/2016)

Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2015 750ml - $799
WA 95-97 "The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially more introspective compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Predominantly black fruit here with blueberry developing in the glass, there is a slight earthiness in character that shimmies towards floral scents as it opens. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and more salinity than then Bonnes Mares or the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses. It feels crunchy and fresh in the mouth with plenty of blueberry and blackberry towards the long and persistent finish. This is an outstanding Musigny Vieilles Vignes of substance that will age over 30-40 years. (NM)" (12/2016)
