Château Mouton Rothschild, with its storied history and dynamic evolution, has deep ties to the Rothschild banking family. The estate's name, like other renowned Bordeaux vineyards, derives from its elevated location. In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Brane-Mouton in disrepair, initiating its restoration. Although once part of the esteemed Segur estate alongside Calon, Phelan, Lafite, and Latour, Mouton was classified as a second growth in 1855.

Notably, Baron Philippe de Rothschild assumed control in 1920 and implemented groundbreaking changes, including estate bottling and artist-designed labels starting in 1945. His vision transcended tradition and catalyzed Bordeaux's modernization.

The property, featuring an 83-hectare vineyard primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, showcases a subtle vineyard makeup shift since the mid-1990s. The estate's continuity and commitment to excellence persist under Baroness Philippine de Rothschild's legacy, leading to comprehensive renovations, advanced winemaking facilities, and her son, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, assuming leadership in 2014.
