Current Stock: 1

Rich, big and powerful, the ’58 Barolo Monfortino explodes with plums and cherries, tarry earth, crushed violet petals, and subtle spices; touches of soy, warm leather, bacon rind, dried fruits and tea reflect this muscular wine’s maturity. The 1958 is a complex, intense wine that continues to flex its muscles in its fine-grained tannins and kaleidoscopic palate, filling the mouth with its lingering, sustained and complex finish. In years of outstanding quality, Giacomo Conterno selects the very best grapes in Cascina Francia, and these become Monfortino. Fermentation of both Barolo bottlings is identical with the exception that the Monfortino gets no temperature control; no matter how high the fermentation temperatures may go, there is no intervention on the part of the Giacomo Conterno.
